A HECK-PACK hitch carrier sits on the towball and carries game, kit or an aluminium box. In the field the same basket is called a game basket or a basket for the towball. The systems have been made in Germany since 2004, in the lines OPTIMAL in hot-dip galvanized steel and DELUXE in stainless steel 1.4301.
They are matched by the game tub in food-grade PE, aluminium transport boxes, lighting and lowering gear and game gambrels.
Yes. A HECK-PACK hitch carrier is mounted on the towball. It cannot be fitted without one.
No. HECK-PACK hitch carriers have ECE type approval and are approved for the road in European countries. The product page and the fitting instructions remain the binding details.
The towball nose weight and the hitch carrier payload must not be exceeded. The ECE payload is typically 89 kg, or 71 kg with a lowering or tip-up mechanism. That is the net payload without the carrier’s own weight. The towball nose weight is often the tighter limit.
OPTIMAL is the hot-dip galvanized steel carrier for field and everyday use, powder-coated if you want it. DELUXE is the stainless steel 1.4301 version for continuous use. Both lines come in several basket sizes.
The game basket is the HECK-PACK hitch carrier on the towball. It carries game, a game tub or kit. It cannot be fitted without a towball. The lines are OPTIMAL in hot-dip galvanized steel and DELUXE in stainless steel 1.4301, both with ECE type approval.
For a 1000 × 500 mm carrier, game tub item 900516. For 1000 × 600 mm, item 900517. The tub is made for that outside size and from food-grade PE. Most game tubs from other makers fit the 1000 × 600 × 175 mm hitch carrier. Otherwise measure it: the inside size is the outside size minus 6 cm.
The anti-rotation lock and the clamp on the towball are safety-critical. HECK-PACK supplies finished hitch carriers with ECE type approval for the towball, not building instructions. In Germany extra lighting is only required if the carrier hides the number plate or the vehicle lights. In Italy, Spain, Denmark and Norway the number plate and lights must be repeated on the carrier.
For small game and wild boar, a size over 1000 mm is not required. 1000 × 500 mm and 1000 × 600 mm are the best-selling sizes. For red deer, the 1200 mm hitch carriers are the better choice. For fallow deer and sika, 1000 × 600 × 175 mm is often enough if the head and legs are tied with straps.
In Germany, when the hitch carrier or the load hides the number plate or the vehicle lights. In Italy, Spain, Denmark and Norway the number plate and lights must be repeated on the hitch carrier. Italy and Spain also require the red-and-white warning board. Guides are under fitting videos and brochures.
